Respect, Responsibility and Trustworthiness.  Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship.  What do these words mean to you?  When you say them out loud, are they just words?  Or do they describe real character traits that determine how you approach life every day?  Understanding and learning about character is one thing… living up to it day in and day out is another story. This video series asks everyone to take a good look in the mirror and consider this: what are the traits that define you as a person?  Diverse groups of high school students are featured prominently in these videos.  In interviews and discussions filmed on-location in schools, students share their thoughts on what it takes to be a person of character in today's society.  They talk about challenges they face in real-life situations, and why it is sometimes difficult to make good choices.  Educators and counselors add their views on how good character and thoughtful choices can contribute to a happier and healthier life.  Each program features upbeat hosts who define key terms, raise important questions, and emphasize that we all have room for improvement when it comes to character.

Respect: Get It Where You Give It Video/DVD

It's something we all want and need: R-E-S-P-E-C-T.  Of course, the best way to gain respect is to earn it.  This program focuses on aspects of respectful behavior, such as using good manners, being courteous, and resolving conflicts peacefully.  It also examines respect for others' property and privacy, self-respect, and recognizing the importance of rules and laws.  Educators and students discuss the sometimes-difficult relationship between teens and authority figures. © 2004.  One 17-minute video or DVD.

Citizenship: Individual Rights & Responsibilities Video/DVD
While students often say they have plenty of personal experience with concepts like respect and fairness, many express reservations about the role of citizenship in their everyday lives.  This video helps promote a broader understanding of citizenship and how it relates to character education and daily life.  It explores aspects of character that involve the rights and obligations that individuals have as members of a society.  Some examples: obeying laws, staying informed, respecting authority, participating in the political process, doing your part to improve community and school, being a good neighbor, and protecting the environment.  Participants in the program discuss ways to improve citizenship, and how each person can make a difference.  © 2004.  One 18-minute video or DVD.
