SCANS Work Readiness Kit

The SCANS Work Readiness Kit provides supplemental and enrichment materials designed to develop necessary work skills identified by the U.S. Department of Labor’s SCANS report. Working through the prescribed activities helps prepare individuals for the workplace by raising their performance levels. The experiential nature of the activities creates a unique learning opportunity and, because the activities are work-based, individuals are exposed to a broad selection of career pathways.

The SCANS Work Readiness Kit provides instructional and supplemental activities designed to build the student’s skill levels in the essential areas needed prior to employment.

These activities are organized relative to the following skill areas:

Applied writing skills
Applied technology skills
Listening skills
Locating information skills
Observation skills
Reading for information skills
Teamwork skills
Basic skills – math
Basic skills – English
Teamwork and problem-solving skills

The SCANS Work Readiness Kit is arranged for ease of use. The materials provided for each skill area are separated into color-coded hanging file folders that are marked accordingly. Multimedia components {i.e., video and cassette tapes} are clearly marked and stored in the same container as the file folders. Each skill area includes an introduction page outlining the activities and a correlation to essential performance levels.

Kit Contents
One carrying/storage/display case with color-coded hanging file folders, reproducible masters, one cassette tape, one video, and one site license (make as many copies for your classroom as needed).
